VOLUNTEER INFORMATION 2022
Thank You for volunteering! Much of our success is due to the efforts of many people in the community who, as race day volunteers, play a central role in making the race a safe, fun, and memorable day!
Volunteer sign in for Friday night help is at The Buckland Elementary School - 75 Mechanic St., Shelburne starting at 4:00pm.
Saturday Morning - Volunteer check is based on what you are doing:
BSE: @6:30am Parking, packet pickup, t shirt sales, other BSE supports
Arms Library: @ 7:30AM - Shelburne course monitors, finish line, Shelburne water stop
McCusker’s Market: @8:30AM – Buckland side course monitors, water stops
In front of Fox Town: @6:30AM – Start Line
PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY SO THAT YOU CAN GET YOUR T-SHIRT/GEAR AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH YOUR ASSIGNMENTS AND AREA.
BE ENTHUSIASTIC and WELCOMING!
BE SURE TO WEAR a volunteer shirt and/or reflective vest so people know where to go for information & help.
The 3k starts at 8:00am and the 8k starts at 9:00am. The 3k and 8k run on the Shelburne side of the Iron Bridge; only the 8k runners cross the bridge and run on the Buckland Side. If you are assigned a water station, hose hitter, or course monitor, please stay at your post until the sweep vehicle passes you. Thanks.
COURSE MONITORS ON THE BUCKLAND SIDE are responsible for coordinating their own motorized transportation to their position after their meeting (course monitors). There is not enough time to walk or run to the positions so transportation is important to ensure you beat the runners to your post! Course monitors on the Shelburne side should have enough time to walk/run over to their position prior to race start. However, if you are unable to, please plan for transportation.
THE FOLLOWING POINTS SHOULD MAKE YOUR SPECIFIC JOB EASIER:
Please greet each registrant individually and make sure they know what to do. If there is any confusion try to give the runner the benefit of the doubt and check with Michaela or other race organizer if you need support.
You can refer people to www.bofrace.com for info and map of the race route and downtown attractions.
There are NO RUNNER shirts for 2022. We may have some vintage shirts for sale on Friday and or Saturday.
-Friday distribution volunteers, please arrive by 4:30 pm;
-Saturday volunteers, please arrive
by 6:30 am. Michaela or Tammy will be there to help give instructions.
Please see your handout for specifics.
Due to COVID we are doing small single serve water bottles – water bottle can be spread out on the table. If holding a bottle for runners please remember don't move to the runner, let the runner come to you. Encourage the runners! Phrases like, "You're doing great" and “Keep it up" cheer them on. Talk it up, SMILE!
HOSE HITS (if your station has a hose):
Be ready; shout ahead, "Want a hit?" Only spray on front of torso and legs and ONLY if a runner asks! Use medium spray.
Everyone can help here! Greet each runner with applause and a smile. And talk it up -- "Great job," "Congratulations," "You did it!" Remind runners about the post-race awards at back at the School Field area.
Awards are scheduled to start at 11am starting with the 3K, 8K will immediately follow- all at The Buckland Shelburne Elementary School field. The post-race party is right there - everything in one spot this year!
All volunteers please help. Remember many hands make light work.
